PIDS, PIA to hold press conference to herald start of DPRM 2016

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will hold a press conference on September 5, 2016, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, to herald the start of the 14th Development Policy Research Month (DPRM).

Spearheaded by PIDS, the DPRM is an annual nationwide celebration held every September to promote awareness and understanding of the importance of policy research in the formulation of development policies, programs, and projects.
This year’s DPRM with the theme “Angkop na Kahandaan: Matatag na Ekonomiya at Lipunan” (Investing in Risk Reduction for a Resilient Philippines) highlights the need for in-depth reflections and analyses of resilience building, risk reduction, and structural transformation. It also looks into the role of evidence-informed policy interventions in building the country's resilience to various economic, environmental, geopolitical, technological and societal risks and stresses.

The press conference panel will include PIDS President Gilberto Llanto, who will present the Institute’s paper on “Risks, Shocks, Building Resilience: Philippines”, which explains this year’s theme.  Joining Dr. Llanto to discuss risk-related issues in their respective sectors/offices are Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial, PIA Director-General Harold Clavite, Project NOAH Executive Director Mahar Lagmay, and Office of Civil Defense Public Affairs Chief Romina Marasigan.

Learning to manage risks requires a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected and evolving nature of risks. Through the month-long celebration of the DPRM, we hope to influence our policymakers, with the participation of different sectors, to make policies and program that will help the Philippines become resilient in the face of multiple risks.
